Jones additionally clarified that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”

This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous examples include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in early 2024.
